Renowned action star and fight choreographer Iko Uwais has officially expanded his creative journey behind the scenes by launching his own production house, Uwais Pictures, in early 2025. This move reflects his strong commitment to elevating Indonesian action cinema to international standards, both in terms of fight choreography and production safety.
Uwais Pictures is set to shake up local cinemas with two debut action films scheduled for release throughout 2025. Below is the complete lineup of new films, along with Iko Uwais’ ambitious vision for the future.
Two Debut Action Films from Uwais Pictures (2025 Releases)
This new production house makes a powerful entrance with two adrenaline-filled films, each offering a distinct storyline — ranging from intense crime drama to a historically inspired military narrative.
Ikatan Darah
Ikatan Darah is the latest action film directed by Sidharta Tata. The film stars a lineup of well-known actors, including Livi Ciananta Item, Derby Romero, Teuku Rifnu Wikana, Dimas Anggara, and many others.
The story follows a former pencak silat athlete who is forced to abandon his peaceful life and return to a violent world to save his younger sibling, who has fallen into online gambling debt and is being hunted by a ruthless loan shark syndicate. Ikatan Darah delivers intense action sequences blended with deep family drama, making it both emotionally gripping and thrilling.
Timur
Timur is a military action-war drama that marks Iko Uwais’ directorial debut. In this ambitious project, Iko not only sits in the director’s chair but also takes on a leading role.
Scheduled for official release on December 18, 2025, the film is based on the true story of the 1996 Mapenduma Operation — a legendary Kopassus mission led by a young Prabowo Subianto to rescue researchers taken hostage by the Free Papua Movement (OPM).
Iko Uwais firmly states that Timur is not a political film. Instead, it highlights themes of heroism, patriotism, and brotherhood in Eastern Indonesia, portrayed through intense action and the human side of the soldiers involved.
Interestingly, Uwais Pictures has taken a bold step by releasing Timur on the same date as the Hollywood blockbuster Avatar: Fire and Ash. Producer Ryan Santoso considers this strategy a smart move to offer a contrasting genre while showcasing the strength of local action cinema.
Future Projects and Iko Uwais’ Vision
As the head of Uwais Pictures, Iko Uwais is not only active in front of the camera. His vision is clear: to produce action films with world-class choreography and the highest safety standards. Drawing from his extensive experience in Hollywood, Iko aims to position Uwais Pictures as a bridge that brings Indonesian action cinema to the global stage.
